Use a compatible Fire OS / Android TV device and a trusted Windows PC on the same private network. The player is not in app stores yet. Check the model’s operating system: Amazon’s Vega-based devices are not automatically compatible with Android APKs. This installs the TV companion only; your FECForge server must already be running.
Prepare the Windows PC
-
Download the TV player APK
Open https://license.fecforge.com/download on the PC and download the Menu Boards TV player APK. Keep the file; do not open it as a Windows installer.
-
Download Android SDK Platform Tools for Windows
Use Google’s official Platform Tools link below. Choose the Windows ZIP. No Android Studio installation is needed for these commands.
-
Extract the Platform Tools ZIP
In Downloads right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. Open the extracted platform-tools folder containing adb.exe.
-
Copy the APK into platform-tools
Copy your downloaded TV player file into that folder. Rename the file fecforge-player.apk. Show file extensions in File Explorer if needed so it is not accidentally named .apk.apk.
Allow this PC to install on a compatible Fire TV
-
Open the TV’s Developer Options
On Fire TV open Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options. If hidden, open About and select the device name seven times, then return. Labels can vary by model.
-
Enable ADB Debugging
Allow debugging only on this trusted private network for the installation. Do not expose the TV to the internet.
-
Read the TV IP address
Open Settings → My Fire TV → About → Network. Write down its IP address.
-
Open PowerShell in platform-tools
On the PC open the folder containing adb.exe and the APK. Type powershell in File Explorer’s address bar and press Enter.
-
Connect to this Fire TV
Replace TV_IP with the address shown on your TV, then run this command.
.\adb.exe connect TV_IP:5555 -
Approve the TV’s authorization prompt
Approve only your own PC. Expect the PC to report a connection; retry the connect command once if authorization was still waiting.
-
Install the downloaded player
Run this command from the same folder. Wait for Success; do not close the window during installation.
.\adb.exe install -r .\fecforge-player.apk -
Disable ADB Debugging again
Return to Developer Options on the TV and turn debugging off when installation is complete.
Open and verify the companion
-
Open FECForge Menu Boards on the TV
Find it in the device’s apps. Enter the venue server address when asked. Continue with Pair a Menu Boards TV and check playback to enter its code in FECForge.
-
If installation does not report Success
Keep the exact error and device model. Check the APK filename, network, and model compatibility. Do not uninstall an existing paired player first: that may remove pairing and cached content. Ask support before replacing a differently signed older preview.
-
For Android TV, use its manufacturer’s debugging instructions
Wireless debugging may require a pairing code and a different port. Do not apply Fire TV’s port 5555 to every Android TV. Follow the device’s displayed connection information and disable debugging afterward.
