Keep the FECForge server running and connect the TV to a network that can reach it. Use the supported FECForge companion player; a browser display and the companion app do not have identical offline behavior. Test alpha software on a non-critical display first.

1

Pair one screen

  1. Publish a board first

In Studio choose Publish to screens after reviewing the board. Pairing an unpublished board will not make its draft public.

  2. Install the TV companion

Use the linked Install the TV player guide below. The APK is downloaded directly, not from an app store. Check Fire OS / Android compatibility first; Amazon Vega-based devices cannot be assumed to run Android APKs.

  3. Open FECForge Menu Boards on the TV

Enter the venue server address when asked. Expect a six-digit pairing code. The TV must be able to reach the always-on FECForge server.

  4. Open Menu Boards → Screens

As a manager or owner choose the pairing action, such as Pair the first screen when the list is empty.

  5. Enter Pairing code

Copy the six digits shown on this TV. If they expire, request a fresh code on the TV instead of retrying the old one.

  6. Enter Screen name and Location

Use a physical description such as Cafe menu left so staff can identify the correct display later.

  7. Select Board and Orientation

Choose the published default board and Landscape or Portrait to match the screen.

  8. Choose Pair screen

Expect the screen in the Screens list and the assigned menu on the TV. Use the screen edit control and Save screen to correct its name, location, board, or orientation.

2

Set playback and schedules

  1. Open Settings → TV playback

In Menu Boards settings set the venue timezone explicitly, especially on a Docker server.

  2. Choose seconds per page

Set a duration from 5 to 300 seconds, then choose Save playback settings. Confirm long menus stay visible long enough to read.

  3. Open Schedule

Choose Add schedule. Select a screen and published board, then set the days, Starts, Ends, and Priority (0–100).

  4. Save the schedule

Check the displayed timezone. Overnight periods belong to the day they start; equal start/end means all day. Higher priority wins overlapping windows. Unpublished or archived boards are skipped.

  5. Mark an unavailable item Sold out

Staff can use Catalog → Sold out and later Restore. Availability reaches connected screens without publishing unrelated names, prices, photos, or layout edits.

3

Prove recovery before relying on the TV

  1. Check the connected display

Compare names, prices, images, orientation, and every page against the published board. Keep an alternative menu available during alpha testing.

  2. Test a brief TV network outage

After a complete successful load, disconnect only the test TV’s network. Confirm its last saved menu remains readable. Do not interrupt the venue server or payment network to run this test.

  3. Restart the companion while offline

Check that its cached player shell and last menu reopen on your actual device. Browser-only players do not guarantee offline page reload.

  4. Reconnect the TV

Confirm it reaches the server and refreshes the menu. A cached display cannot receive new prices, availability, or schedules while disconnected.

  5. Test reboot and an overnight run

Check device power/sleep behavior and whether the companion returns as expected. Do not promise unattended reliability until your model passes these checks.
